Left Ventricle — ECG/EKG Terminology
Definition: The lower left chamber that pumps oxygenated blood to the body via the aorta. It has the thickest myocardium.
Key Facts
- Main pumping chamber for systemic circulation and perfusion pressure.
- Has the thickest myocardium due to high systemic afterload.
- Dysfunction causes reduced cardiac output and heart failure symptoms.
ECG Connection: Left ventricular hypertrophy and ischemia can alter QRS voltage and ST-T morphology.
Why It Matters: Telemetry trends may reveal worsening ischemia or strain in high-risk patients.
